In Dulci Jubilo -- Art, Poetry and Essay Contest |
| Each spring for the last 25 years, fourth and fifth graders from
Berkeley public schools are invited to compete in In Dulci Jubilo's Art,
Poetry & Essay contest for an opportunity to win
certificates, medals, and cash prizes in all three
categories. The theme of
the 2007 competition was "The Most Amazing Invention".
A list of suggested books that could be used by classroom teachers was
available here.
Each year, details about the competition are distributed in January to the principals of all Berkeley public elementary schools, and fourth and fifth grade classroom teachers are encouraged to create assignments around the chosen theme. Student entries are to be submitted by teachers to their school principal for pickup on March 15th. After judging, classroom teachers are notified if their students are winners, and a special awards ceremony occurs in April.
In 2006 more than thirty students won prizes for their creative work on the topic, "A Wonderful Dream". Parents, teachers, principals, and the In Dulci Jubilo Board of Directors honored their efforts at our annual awards ceremony which was held at Malcolm X School of Arts and Academics in South Berkeley.
