Art, Poetry & Essay Contest
Community Builders since 1978
Each spring for the last 26 years, fourth and fifth graders from Berkeley public schools are invited to compete in the In Dulci Jubilo, Inc. Art, Poetry & Essay contest for an opportunity to express their ideas on community issues through creative writing and visual art. Contest winners receive win certificates, medals, and cash prizes in all three categories. The theme of the 2009 competition was "My Place In History: How I Can Make A Difference."
Each year, details about the competition are distributed in January to the principals of all Berkeley public elementary schools, and fourth and fifth grade classroom teachers are encouraged to create assignments around the chosen theme. Student entries are submitted by teachers for pickup in the Spring. Community volunteers judge the students' work and a special awards ceremony occurs in April for the winners.
In 2009, nearly thirty students won prizes for their creative work on the topic, "My Place In History: How I Can Make A Difference." Parents, teachers, principals, and the In Dulci Jubilo, Inc. Board of Directors honored their efforts at our annual awards ceremony which was held at Oxford Elementary school on Thursday, April 23rd,2009.
